Mappa Mundi: Islands and Oceans is the first expansion for the award-winning, ENnie-nominated Mappa Mundi - An Exploration + Ecology RPG (Winner of the Gold Award for Best RPG - Dragonmeet 2025; nominated for Best Art, Cover; Best Art, Interior; and Best Production Values - ENnie Awards 2026).
The world beyond the coasts of Evasu teems with life and activity. Beyond the great oceans lie other peoples, other places, other Monsters. But to reach them, one must trust to skill and luck. For the oceans of Ecumene are wide and deep.
Mappa Mundi: Islands and Oceans introduces four new Regions to explore: three Islands and one open ocean. Each new Region features one new Monster and three new Creatures, and the game comes with additions to the Journey Deck, with new Monster cards, new ocean-based environment cards, and a brand new Weather mechanic.
Plus, we're introducing a brand new Licence to stand alongside our original four: The Mariner, expert sailors and navigators who set out into the depths of the oceans seeking new life and new mysteries.
The prelaunch page is now live right here on Kickstarter. Please click the link above to go to the page and click that Notify Me On Launch button!
We're incredibly excited not only to return to the world of Ecumene but to open up your experience to brand new places never before seen in the game. Writing is already half complete, with two of the four Regions finished and currently being illustrated, and the two remaining Regions currently out with our freelancer writers.
Mappa Mundi: Islands and Oceans will deliver everything you've come to expect from us at Three Sails Studios, and we want you -- our very first Chroniclers -- to join us on the journey.
Thank you for your support, and we look forward to seeing you out on the water.

Update 21: A New Game from Three Sails Studios + the tides begin to stir for Mappa Mundi
6 months ago
– Tue, Apr 07, 2026 at 05:32:16 AM
Hello, Chroniclers! It's George from Three Sails Studios, here; the creator and publisher of Mappa Mundi!
I'm writing this update to you primarily to introduce you to a new game we're working on and publishing that I think you'll really like -- City of Espers: A Street-Level Psychics TTRPG -- and also to share with you some exciting Mappa Mundi plans (or, at least, a little bit of them).
Let's get right down to it!
City of Espers - the next game from Three Sails Studios!
It seems like only yesterday we were getting ready to start Mappa Mundi's crowdfunding campaign. Now, just over a year later, Mappa is award-winning (and we're hoping for some more!), Gallows Corner, our second game, is crowdfunding and currently being printed, and we're less than five months away from our third crowdfunder, this time for an externally designed game!
Instead, the amazing Nathan Blades, also known as The Neon Caster, everyone's favourite androgynous late-night android show host, pitched City of Espersto us and we've worked together to bring it to life.
Put simply, City of Espers is one of the greatest TTRPG experiences I've ever had.
Combining high octane manga-inspired sports action, newly awakened misfit psychics moving to a new urban metropolis, a psychically resonant city that awakens and changes itself based on the shared dreams and goals of those who live there, and a dice-less, card-based resolution system, all dressed up in both couture and street fashion comic book aesthetics, City of Espers is a game designed to tell stories of found and chosen families building the versions of the world they want to see around them...and being rewarded for it!
Inspired by the New York ballroom scene of the 1980s, graffiti and street fashion cultures, and stories of overcoming adversity through creativity and joy, City of Espers is a game that wants to welcome you to your new home and give you the tools you need to make it your own.
All of us at Three Sails are incredibly excited about bringing this out into the world with Nathan (can you tell?) and we know you're going to love it. So go give us a follow today and dive into Zener City!
Mappa Mundi - Something stirs beneath the waves...
With Mappa Mundi passing it's one year Kickstarter anniversary and nearing one year being publicly available, we've been thinking long and hard about just what we wanted to do next.
By now, you've all started exploring the Wilds of Evasu, from Barbecia in the west to Zoumung in the east and everywhere in between.
But travel remains difficult. The bulk of Ebulan remains concealed behind the great storm the rends the continent. No ships have come from Errisya in more than a century. Evasu is isolated, surrounded by oceans on either side.
Well, Chronicler, it's time to reach out across the horizon.
In a few months time, we'll be formally announcing the first expansion for Mappa Mundi - An Exploration + Ecology RPG. A smaller format product, but at the same exceptional quality you've come to expect from Three Sails Studios, this expansion will be your first exposure to the lands and peoples beyond Evasu.
Where are we taking you, and how are you getting there? That we'll leave up to your imaginations for the time being. But what we will say is this: keep your eyes on the stars and you'll never steer wrong.
Summing Up
Thanks so much for reading, everyone. We can't wait to take you back to Ecumene, but in the meantime, please do check out City of Espers.
Thank you for all your support, and we hope you'll carry on with us on the long journey we have planned!
In solidarity,
George Mappa Mundi creator and designer Studio Lead, Three Sails Studios
Update 20: We emerge from the Wilds with news!
– Mon, Feb 23, 2026 at 09:43:59 AM
Hello, Chroniclers! It's George, here, the creator and designer of Mappa Mundi and the studio lead at Three Sails Studios. A reintroduction, just in case you forgot (or blocked me out) after last year's campaign!
You were the first people to get the announcement that we were working on Gallows Corner, and I wanted to come and share our progress with you, tell you a bit about the game, talk about the things Gallows Corner has in common with Mappa Mundi, and also give you a quick insight into our future Mappa Mundi plans (and how supporting Gallows Corner helps us get to them more quickly).
So, without further ado, let's get the update under way!
Gallows Corner - A Peasants' Revolt RPG:Our second game, and why we think you should consider backing it!
For those of you who don't know, Gallows Corner is the second game from Three Sails Studios. Created, designed, laid out, developed, edited, illustrated, and printed by the same (now award winning!) team as Mappa Mundi (that'd be me, George, alongside Jeremy as developer and editor and Joel as artist).
On the surface, Gallows Corner looks very different in tone and setting to Mappa Mundi. Where Mappa was bright and hopeful, Gallows Corner seems dark and pessimistic. Where Mappa was fantastical, Gallows Corner is grounded and realistic.
Those tonal differences are true, of course. But that's not the whole story. Let's take a look at all the things Gallows Corner has in common with Mappa Mundi (and why I think you'll like both).
Things In Common
1. Both games are powered by hope (Gallows Corner just has a bit more rage mixed in with that hope)!
One thing that people seemed to really love about Mappa Mundi is that it looked at a seemingly impossible, even dangerous, situation and said 'You know what? I think I can help!' Each Chronicler signed up to change the world for the better, and we love that about Mappa.
Gallows Corner is no different. While the situation might be different (an oppressive social and political system rather than an environmental crisis and cultural division), the idea that you can change the world for the better, that the new and better world you feel in your bones can come to life if only you'll act, is right at the core of both games.
2. Both games are focused on the power of every day people and their ability to change the world for the better (Gallows Corner just has more character options to choose from)!
Honestly, this is one of those choices that unites all Three Sails Studios games. Our committment to putting 'normal' people front and centre in our storytelling is a design philosophy and committment that runs throughout our work.
In Mappa Mundi, Chroniclers were every day people who chose to volunteer for something extraordinary. In Gallows Corner, players take on the role of peasants and the working classes who are soon to be outlawed.
The power we all have to change the world, starting by standing up and saying 'I'll do something!', unites both games.
And hey, where Mappa Mundi had only four Licences to choose from, Gallows Corner featurs 8 Trades to choose from, each with 6 Jobs inside, giving you 48 different choices!
3. Both games make use of non-traditional 'levelling up' systems (Gallows Corner just introduces a new system, while also keeping the same dice levelling mechanic you loved in Mappa Mundi)!
One of the mechanics I enjoyed designing the most for Mappa Mundi was the 'dice levelling' system: over time, as you succeed and fail, you learn and upgrade your dice, making your Chronicler more capable.
I loved it so much that I decided I wanted to have a similar version in Gallows Corner, but developed to fit the new system and setting.
In Gallows Corner, your dice still represent your character. But instead of having four Abilities, each with it's own dice, you have three Traits (Physical, Intellectual, and Emotional), each with their own dice that can go up and down in value, a Trade dice, and a Job dice.
Over your character's journey, these dice will develop, either increasing or decreasing in value. And rather than being told what dice to roll when being Tested, players build a dice pool from their collection to make Tests!
And our narrative Skills system from Mappa Mundi? We kept that for Gallows Corner, too!
4. Both games have a focus on travel and exploration (Gallows Corner uses a point crawl system instead of the Journey Deck system, making the spaces you explore less abstract, but just as rich)!
It has become increasingly clear to me that my research interests from when I used to be an academic (physical and social spaces and how they can be used to change the world around you) are still deeply rooted in my brain.
Mappa Mundi challenged you to reconnect the world by exploring and engaging with its spaces, and by treating Monsters, Creatures, and cultures with respect and care to heal the wounds caused by the flux.
Gallows Corner sees oppression and control linked to the spaces of medieval England, and challenges you to overthrow tyranny and injustice by helping people improve their lives and stand up against power.
The Point Crawl system in Gallows Corner is a development of the Journey Deck system; one which makes the spaces and places you visit less abstract but just as deep and engaging.
5. Both games are of the highest quality (There's nothing to say in these brackets; you expect quality from Three Sails Studios, and we're delivering exactly that again)!
Right from the start, we promised you the highest quality product we could produce for Mappa Mundi, and I'm happy to say I think we kept that promise.
Our promise for Gallows Corner is no different!
Every person who backs a physical edition will receive a beautiful book. Bound in black cloth, embossed with silver foil to pick out all the details, and filled with beautifully illustrated uncoated paper (just like Mappa!), you won't want to put it down.
For those wanting to match their copy of Gallows Corner to their copy of Mappa Mundi, we're also offering a boxed edition of the game, which comes in a fully illustrated lidded box, and contains physical copies of our four Tales of Old England zines, stored below the book just like your Journey Deck is.
We have just over a week to go, and we'll be delivering copies of the game on the same schedule we did with Mappa Mundi, so you can expect to have your copy in your hand in June!
Future Plans for Mappa Mundi: time to explore new continents!
As you all know, we've had plans to expand the world of Mappa Mundi since the Kickstarter campaign last year. The core rulebook covers the continent of Evasu (and a little bit of Ebulan), and we've been desperate to branch out into our other continents ever since we first started work on the game.
I'm happy to announce that work has begun on the first expansion for the now award-winning Mappa Mundi! (That's right! Mappa Mundi won the Gold Award for Best RPG at the Dragonmeet Awards in November 2025!)
We're not ready to announce exactly what that expansion is going to be yet, but I will tell you that it will be a smaller, more concise book that reaches out to two other continents in Ecumene, plus a new region for Evasu.
As it's still early days, this info is subject to change, but the final product will complement your Mappa Mundi core set perfectly.
The game will come as a book in a box, like Mappa Mundi, and will also have new Journey Deck cards to cover the new environments you'll be able to visit, as well as new cards for each new Monster.
We're also planning on introducing a new Licence to the game, and this will be one that allows you to explore these new, less firm landscapes...
Thank you, everyone, for sticking with me this far, and for all your support you showed us during the Mappa Mundi campaign. Three Sails Studios is growing and developing and we can't wait to see you make this journey with us.
Until next time, Chroniclers, keep safe out in the Wilds and be excellent to each other.

Update 19: Mappa Mundi has fulfilled + Moving on to Gallows Corner!
– Tue, Jul 29, 2025 at 06:17:28 AM
Hello, Chroniclers! George from Three Sails Studios, here, with one final update for Mappa Mundi - An Exploration + Ecology RPG and some amazing news about our next project, Gallows Corner - A Peasants' Revolt RPG (spoiler: the Prerelease Guide is available now, for free!)
Mappa Mundi -- fulfilled all over the world!
First up, the project you backed and helped us bring to life: Mappa Mundi - An Exploration + Ecology RPG.
It seems strange to be saying, less than six months after the project launched on Kickstarter, that Mappa Mundi has now completed its fulfilment. In fact, it was completed this time last month, with copies to our US and Canada backers sent out.
While there are still a few people yet to complete their surveys on Backerkit, I'd estimate that 98% of physical backers have now received their copies of the game, and we have received near universally excellent feedback. It makes us very happy that you are happy, and we're always keen to hear how you've found reading and playing Mappa Mundi.
Remember, you can come and share your thoughts with us in the Three Sails Studios Discord server. We love having new friends come and join us, and the community of more than 500 is thriving. If you want to join us over there, just click here!
What comes next for Mappa Mundi? I'm so glad you asked! Jeremy, Mappa Mundi's cowriter, developer, and editor has now taken on the role of the game's Producer. While he's still hard at work supporting our other projects, this means that he is responsible for Mappa Mundi and will be shepherding its growth and development over the next few years. It is very early stages, but plans are being laid down for the first Mappa Mundi supplement, intended to take us to one of Ecumene's other continents. And boy, is it going to be a good one!
Next Project: Gallows Corner - A Peasants' Revolt RPG. Prerelease Guide and Introductory Adventure now available!
You might remember, back at the end of May, I announced the next project from Three Sails Studios: Gallows Corner - A Peasants' Revolt RPG.
Well, myself, Joel (our amazing artist), and Jeremy have been hard at work getting the game's design, writing, development, and illustrations put together and we're happy to announce that the game's Prerelease Guide and an introductory adventure -- A Spark Takes Hold -- are now available to download (pay what you want) on DriveThruRPG.
Gallows Corner will be launching right here on Kickstarter in February 2026. We hope you'll give the Prerelease Guide a read, play the introductory adventure, and join us to bring the game to life next year.
But of course, you want to see what the game is looking like right now. So I'll leave you with some of Joel's initial artwork for Gallows Corner. The black and white work will ultimately be coloured, but I hope you'll enjoy this look at the creative process.
As always, Chroniclers (or should I start calling you Rebels, now?), thank you for your support. You have set our small company off on the greatest of starts, and we will continue to bring you thoughtful and intentional, fun and exciting, important and vital games for as long as we can.
Yours, in solidarity,
George
Update 18: US and Canada Shipping Has Begun!
– Thu, Jun 19, 2025 at 06:48:28 AM
Hello, Chroniclers!
Just a quick update from me today to let you know that the final stretch for fulfilment has begun!
Canada Backers
Our friends in the true north, your packages were all processed yesterday and have been dispatched from our UK fulfilment partners! We can't wait to hear when they arrive, so be sure to let us know.
Regarding the Canada Post strike situation, we figured we'd take advantage of the stalemate and try and get your books to you as soon as possible. Fingers crossed we're able to avoid any issues.
Thank you for your understanding and support!
US Backers
Our friends in the US, you are last to fulfil, but certainly not least, with backers in the US accounting for 51% of our total orders!
I received word about thirty minutes ago that not only has our stock arrived with our fulfilment partner but they are already beginning to print shipping labels and starting to pick and pack orders.
You will receive tracking numbers in due course and we'd love it if you could let us know (and let the world know via social media) when your copies start arriving.
Thank you for your support!
Penultimate Update
Well, Chroniclers, three and a half months since the Kickstarter finished, we are only days away from everyone having their books arriving through their doors, if they haven't already.
Yesterday and today I was informed that our Australian and New Zealand backers started receiving their copies, meaning we've sent books all around the world.
This will be my penultimate update. You'll hear from me again in a week or two once fulfilment is complete just to say thank you once again, and to share some news about our next project, Gallows Corner - A Peasants' Revolt RPG. If you could give the project a follow here on Kickstarter, if you want to learn more, we'd appreciate it.
Mappa Mundi will be going on general sale next week, so please tell your friends, share about the game on social media, and come and join our Discord server if you haven't already!
Thank you, everyone, for supporting this new, small, committed, and passionate indie studio to bring our first game into the world. Without you, none of this would be possible. Hopefully you'll continue to support us on our journey as we release more games and new material for Mappa Mundi.
